An immersion into
local history and culture
Cultural sights in and around Bruneck and in the Pustertal valley
Medieval castles and modern architecture. Museums and historical old towns. Classical concerts and leisurely strolls. Here are a few things to see and do in and around Bruneck.
Grand Hotel Toblach
Built in the 19th century as a luxurious retreat for the elite, Grand Hotel Toblach is now thriving as a cultural and conference centre that also hosts prestigious music events such as the Gustav Mahler Weeks and the Festival Dolomites.
Museums
Exciting forays for young and old: the Dolomythos Museum in Innichen offers a deep-dive into the wonderful world of the Dolomites. The Monte Piana open-air museum will take you into the trenches of the First World War. Mt. Kronplatz is home to two museums: the Messner Mountain Museum Corones, which is dedicated to the history of traditional Alpinism and – right next door – the LUMEN Museum, with great insights into mountain photography.
Castles and fortresses
Journey back to the Middle Ages: Castle Welsberg is an unusual castle complex, which also hosts concerts and exhibitions in the summer months, while Castle Taufers, near Bruneck, is one of the best-preserved castles in South Tyrol. Don’t miss Castle Bruneck, home to the Messner Mountain Museum Ripa, which is dedicated to the theme of mountain peoples around the world.
Town walks
Picturesque cobbled streets, buzzing with life. The historical centres of Innichen, Bruneck and Brixen invite you to take a leisurely walk and indulge in your shopping spree, browsing the shops for beautiful pieces you won’t find anywhere else. In December, all three towns take on a magical allure with the Christmas markets and their festive sounds, colours and scents.
